I'm about to have a go at splitting the cases and replacing the conrod and big-end bearing. I presume I'm going to have to get a shop to press the crankshaft apart and back together for me, but was wondering if there are any pitfalls I should watch out for otherwise.

I've been putting this job off for months. Any words of wisdom or encouragement will be very appreciated.

Cheers,

Answers: No, no, and no!

Am I going to need a special Kawasaki flywheel puller, or will a generic puller work?

I'm trying to avoid buying the manual, as I'm planning to upgrade to a later model in the near future.

I've never heard of a crankcase splitter...

I'm not exactly brimming with confidence at this stage.

you dont need a crankcase splitting tool.....trust me Im in the middle of a kx125 rebuild at the moment.......

I dont know if wiseco make a whole crankshaft assembly for your machine or not but find out it will end up being about the same price as having one pressed.....

just be sure to get a manual alot of little parts you can probably pick one up off ebay pretty cheap.......

a universal flywheel puller will work.........and there you have it....its not that tough of a job
if you run into any questions just e-mail me and I'll walk you through it....question by question....................

its just nuts and bolts nothing to be scared of..............IMHO

Hey thanks fellas. Especially you for your kind offer of coaching, gp-dblc. I'll definitely take you up on it if I run into any probs.

I've done a bit of engine rebuilding in the past, but couldn't remember ever needing anything called a crankcase splitter. From memory, I just need to keep all the gearbox stuff aligned in the right-side case.

Don't know about the Wiseco option. I might just look into it. The Kawasaki bottom-end kit (rod, bearing, crankpin) is only about Oz$130, so it seems pretty good. Of course, then there's the cost of pressing it.

Feeling more confident now...

Cheers.
