stall when hott?

i have an 82' yamaha xt200j and when it gets hott it will stall and not start again...it also has a violent kickback upon starting...what could that be?

Check your valve clearances. Your valves are almost certainly too tight. Basically, when everything heats up, your vavles are not closing all the way. No closing = no compression, and possible kick back.

so what kind of tool will i need to get to fix that? (the engine is in pieces right bow fyi and theres a ton of carbon on the valves and piston)
