I ride a 125 two stroke and i was wondering if starting in 2nd gear is the way to go? Also, when the gate drops do you just pin it and dump the clutch completely, or do you feather the clutch??

I've always started in 2nd on everything I've raced.... 125's, 250F's, 450's, even 80's. I don't like 1st because you go through the gear so quick, have more chance of riding a wheelie, plus you lose time adding another shift.

As far as the clutch, I hold a steady half throttle on the line with the clutch in, and when the gate drops, I smoothly dump the clutch and full throttle all at once. Best thing to do - PRACTICE! Over and over and over!

2nd is typically the right gear for a 125, but you should practice in 1st and 3rd as well - if you learn to start in all three, you'll get better with the clutch and you'll be ready for any conditions. . .

Feather the clutch to reduce wheelspin.
