How do the old-school CR250's (mid 90's to '96) compare to the new-school CR250 aluminum frames ('00 to present)? I'm considering it for one of those MX/Trail 50/50 bikes with fancy suspension upgrades and flyweights, and was curious how they compared to each other.

I have to say thanks for asking this question. I was just wondering the same thing, and found very bad info on the 97's frame. I hope we can find out. Good Luck.

Mid 90's to 96' CR's were excellent in the corners but suffered from horrible stability(major headshake) down rough straightaways... I don't know about the 97'- 00' models....I've ridden an 01' and it was o.k.....The 02' through 04' are awesome...They feel very light, corner well, and have good stability...

I'f your heart is set on a CR and you're concerned about handling I'd go with an 02' through 04' CR's...The 03' is a little bit more powerful than both the 02' and 04' but it is trivial..

CR 250' I have owned: 84, 87, 90, 93, 94, 96, 97, 00, & 03.

The 03 is by far & away the best chassis of the group!
The 97 had the funnest motor.
