I just got an 01 rm250 in really nice shape, but once I rev it to about 3/4 throttle, it starts sputtering and blowing black, like it's waaay rich. I figured it's most likely either jetted way to rich, or the exhuast valve is stuck/disconnected. In my manual, Suzuki calls for a 175 main, but all the mags said it came with a 162? It currently has a 178 main, fmf gnarly pipe, and powercore 2 silencer. I would appreciate any input.
thanks
The FMF site states that a 2001 RM250 with a Gnarly pipe should be running a 48 pilot and a 158 main. I am pretty sure that these are the jets that I am currently running. If you are running a 178 main, youare WAY to RICH. I also modified the slide, ported the cylinder, installed a V-Force reed and a FMF SST pipe. I have no smoke or spooge coming from the bike. If I were you I would pull the top end and rebuild, have the cylinder ported by Eric Gorr and then determine what else you want to do. Porting the cylinder will give you the best bang for your buck. The power delivery is much improved, pulls harder and longer. Good luck.
