My stator coil packed up once on my rm125 02 it started to run really bad on the track, it was misfiring & there was no power. If water or dampness has got into the flywheel cover it knacks the coil. Even though its wires are coated. It got to the point where my bike would not start & just backfired when trying to kick it over, however it would bump. The first thing that should be checked is electrical connections. Then the stator coil, as its most likely to be one of these 2 things. Even if the stator coil resistance seems ok. It does not nessecerialy mean it will function properly, mine was only 2 oms out & it was crud

Or even it could be something real daft like a blocked tank or carb breather. Did you check for a spark at the time? If it was not a bright blue strong spark then its the electrics. funny though how these problems came about just after a top end job..Are you water wasnt leaking past the head

I'm postive no water was leaking past the head. But I will check for blue spark. You think it could be the stator because I've had this starting problem with my bike ever since I bought it. This was when it ran. It would start when it was cold, gas off and choke on in one kick. But then when it warmed up like after I turn it off or stall it I need to push start it every time. Could that be becase the stator is gummed up?
I just want to know if I should go get my cylinder or crank inspected or just get a stock ktm piston because the vertex one I have is .05mm too small. Thanks

Do you think it could be jetting because there is a lot of black slooge coming out of my silencer and it was never like that when I bought it.

Did you ever sort this problem out mate? It seems like I have the same problem more or less. My piston ring is brand new and it has good compression but it still can be a bitch to start, it bogs when you first ride it (even after I have let it heat up properly), occasionaly it will bog when I give it throttle and cut out. If I try to rev it, the power band kicks in (because it wheelies) but as the revs get higher it just goes bah bah bah bah bah bah bah, as if it won't go any further. Now, when we first got the bike it had a problem within the stator because the pickup coil went, I replaced this with a ricky stator one and it fired up fine, so now I am guessing maybe my stator is finally getting worse. The amount of times I have fiddled with it is unreal! I understand that the stator contains 2 coils on my bike, one for low revs and one for the high revs (different resistances), is it possible that the high rev coil is shagged hence why my bike won't rev to the moon!

Topics really need to be finalized if the problem has been solved as every topic I have searched for hasn't given me an idea of what is wrong.

I took my bike to the shop and got the stator tested. It was totally fried so I put a new one in, tested it and it was good. Tried to start the bike and it still didn't have any spark. So I took it to the shop again and got the coil tested it was almost dead or dying so I'm just waiting on the one, I ordered from ****, to get here now. I let you know how it is when I put it in.

My advice to you is to go and get your bike tested. If you don't have an owner's manual for your bike then I suggest you get one because you are going to need that to know what resistance and voltage your electrical system needs to be at (Stator, coil, CDI box). Get everything tested and see how they are. Chance is your bike s missing terribly because your timing is off or one of your electrical components are fried.
The other thing you can do is if someone near you has the same bike as you or a few years apart, doesn't matter, try getting their coil and CDI box and put them on your bike (very easy to install). Make sure the bike you get those parts off of is a running bike ofcourse. Let me know what happens.

Nice one, hopefully my new stator should be here soon, it might bring the old girl back up to its original 250 power! I have a fairly new coil on, and I also won a CDI unit off egay so that's another thing to check out, and it was off a running bike :)
