This past July, I got my first dirtbike. I picked up an XR200. I had ridden my friend's 200 and it seemed good for our woods. But, a couple trips to one of my other friend's trails quickly made me realize how limited the bike was. Obviously it was never made for jumping and I don't recommend anyone try it LOL. Secondly, it's too slow for a lot of the longer hills that require speed to keep traction. I'm also getting bigger, and by next year will probably be too big for the bike. I'm about 5'10 180 lbs now, and after working out all winter for football next year, I'd hope to weigh around 210.
Now I know that would be too big for the measly 200. But I don't know what to go with. My father probably won't be too thrilled about getting me another bike after less than a year anyway. I've ridden XR250s and I like their power, but they are very bulky and heavy. I've also ridden a few 125 two strokes and I really liked them. But the only problem is that the woods around my house are very tight and narrow. I'd probably never get out of second on a 125, and I feel like why should I have all that power for the certain occasions when I do make it to more open woods.
I've never ridden a KDX200, but I've heard good things. They seem like a nice cross between a 125 racer, and a trail-bike. I like their look, and it seems like I'd be able to do some moderate jumping with it. It's still a two-stroke, but I think I could live with that as long as it had the power to pull me around and do some jumping.
Of course what I'd really want would be a YZ250F, but since they haven't been out long enough to find a used one for less than $3500 that wasn't totally trashed, that's out of the question. I was checking out the CRF230 on the Honda site, but I'd imagine that it's still basically not made for any jumping or anything.
I'm hoping next summer to find something new and I wondered what anyone else would suggest.
