Today was my first time at this annual ride. I guesstimate about 100 riders started out from Little Tujunga Canyon. Pre-runners said there was snow about 10 miles out. What they didn't mention was the ICE underneath the snow! A very new (and exhausting) experience for this desert rider.
Took me, and numerous others, 2-1/2 hours to reach the mid-point (33 miles). I must have fallen 4 or 5 times on the ice. At least there was a couple of inches of snow to break my fall.
The majority made it to the turn-around/lunch stop near Acton. Even a guy on a mid-eighties XL185, with the original style dual-purpose tires no less!
According to the "old timers" there, today's ride was a piece of cake, compared to some of the previous rides.
Yes, I had a great time.
