hey guys, I just pulled off my cylinder and stuff to be doing my 2nd top end in my 2003 KDX200. And what i am curious about is why there could be Brown underneath the rings on the piston? This top end is about a year old. Was is just overdue?

Thanks

That's completely normal. That piston gets hot enough to trap deposits underneath the rings and 'cook' them to a nice brown color. Synthetic oils brown up less than conventional ones. I wouldn't worry about it. Scrape out the deposits if possible but normally they are more like stains.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Wow......mine is a 2001 and I have yet to do a top end. Compression is still above spec. Runs like the day i got it. Ahhh......just another reason the KDX is the perfect off road bike.
