I had a realization today while riding, I was riding with a few buddies today and one of the usuals was telling me he was not feeling it and was riding sloppy. This has happen to all of us, just having an off day. The realization was to realize that you are having an off day and having enough dicipline to know when to rack it up and take it to the house and be healthy enough to do it again another day. Unfortinuitly I think my friend severely damaged his knee today. I think on my next off day I will rack it up and go to the house or just hang out and watch.
Hopefully some of the younger pilots read this post. The "One More Lap" book includes an old guy who was really tired and as he left a moderate sized double realized he wasn't going fast enough to clear yet to fast to no-go... end result was case and over the bars. Afterwards this old guy realized his brain had no clue he was doing the double and if that has never happened to you trust me it's about as spooky as it gets, call it a brain fart or any other sophisticated medical term the bottom line was from that day forward the one last lap is a rolling lap only as a way to cool down and the wheels don't leave the ground.
I felt like this the last time I rode. Friend and I toook 2 hour drive, to a new area and the one thing I'm usually better them him at is hills. I couldn't climb up anything, kept stalling out and kept loosing all traction. To top it off the battery was dead, and the bike was just not starting easy, running hot, and me out of shape. One of the worst rides I've ever had!

I totally agree, it would be awsome if the noobs would read this and take it to heart. My buddy ended up with a torn acl, the doc pulled over 100cc of blood from his knee. He is out for at least 3 months. :|
Last time I was injured it was not an "off" day. It was just a regular day on the bike having fun. Last weekend was a great day. It was a "do no wrong day" Everything clicked and I was pretty on. I wanted to take one loop, but it was dark by the time we got back to the truck. We pretty much used up all the light. We packed it up. It was a long 2 hrs home, but I had a grin the whole way.
Almost every time I go out riding I at least lay it over. Im not saying that if you wreck once go home, there are those days when you know you shouldnt be riding, weather you are thinking about something else or just not riding good. I've gone out and thought I was riding better than I have ever ridden and still have a brutal wreck, thats just part of it. I think there are times when I know that I should not try and ride so fast, things just not clicking, timing off and cant find it.
