I've gone through the same situation. The hole is recessed and shrouded in the swing arm.

The threads in mine weren't too bad and I was able to clean up the threads by starting a tap by hand and finishing it with an adjustable wrench.

Good luck....

Maybe post a pic of it and someone could have a good idea of how to get at it.

I suppose you could grind some aea from the lip at the back edge without messing things up too bad if you can't pull it off like spark250 suggested. I would imagine it's only aluminum so it should be pretty easy to tap.

dont do any of that, get a helicoil kit and fix it that way, you can get special sockets to drive the tap you will be using with the helicoil kit, goto the autoparts store and fix it right. put antiseize on the bolt threads when you put it all back together

The issue is you can't access the hole!!

in order to helicoil you have to get a larger sized drill in there and straight!!! and then tap it!!!

but thanks capt. obvious :nener:
