The 310 is one of the best off-road motors I have ever twisted a throttle on :thumb:

The Wiseco custom piston was one I designed while working for Max Power and thats the only place where you can buy it for $150. It fits KX250s from 1993-2003. Cometic sells the gasket kit direct for $35
Depending on the year and the desired powerband the cylinder may need some structural welding. I've set these things up for everything from MX, supermotard, technical mountain climbing, and even a Pike's Peak runner.
They're pretty versatile. John Strong at Crank Works claims to have added an improvement by stroking and balancing the crank for an additional 14cc.
The only difference between the old 490 is the lack of annoying noise and vibration, and of course a few foot pounds of torque.
