I've spent a lot of time sleeping in the car out on the road and it always sucks.
You better sleep with one eye open because a gun won't do you any good if you sleep with both eyes closed.
Take it from someone who's been there and get a room somewhere. You can drive out of Atlanta and surely find a motel six or something. Of coarse the light will be on so you still might not get a good nights sleep..lol The life you save might be your own.

Walmart welcomes RVs and campers in their lots overnight. Not sure about cars or SUVs tho. Rest areas are sometimes crime havens in the wee hours but a large truck stop can sometimes offer a safer alternative. Also be sure about gunlaws before you take it with you if you get rousted in the middle of the night by a local officer he just might check the interior. As a fulltime sworn cop I can carry concealed most places but usually don't just because of the varied laws in each state.

Drive an hour out of town or until you get tired and then get a room. You will not need reservations. Did you ever wake up to the smell of a car after a couple of guys have slept in it ? :scream: :ugg: not worth the price of a room.

Just as an FYI, Walmart is no longer allowing the motorhome sleep overs. From what I heard/read, a few people were abusing this luxury by leaving trash behind, being rowdy, etc, so the Corporate Walmart now has signs posted in all of our Walmarts that no motorhomes can overnite stay. Too bad, it sure was handy for long hauls.

I've done it many times. Not recently, but nonetheless. Growing up in SWK, and on a Farm, I've slept many places from shop floors to cars. You'll have to find a truckstop to do it legally. A morning shower is a bonus (which should be available). If you need to run the heater, keep the windows cracked. You won't sleep well, but what the hell. It's a lot of fun. Keep Art Bell on for the humor of it all.:)

I miss those days. :scream:

What's all of this "please leave the gun home" crap. If you don't know how to handle one responsibly or you are just scared of it, fine. If you know what you are doing, then there is nothing wrong with defending yourself. So what do you do when somebody is breaking through your window with a tire tool....lay there quietly and hope he doesn't choose to hit you with it?

Just be sure of the laws in GA so you don't get into any unnecessary aggravation. GA tends to be a gun friendly state.

In mi unless you have a concealed weapon's permit!

sleeping in your truck with a bike on a trailer in a parking lot is kinda in the gray area of the law any way. if jonny law decides to nose around and finds the weapon with out the correct permit, you could be finding a quick trip to the slammer, with your bike being inpounded? personal I could carless if you are packing. I just would'nt have it in my truck. especially since 9/11 !

That's the problem with this country. We are all afraid of when Johnny Law is gonna come poking around and it takes a freakin permit to defend yourselves from thugs who run around ignoring permits and most other laws. I don't think your average bike riding white guy is on the terrorist hot list.

Like I said, GA is generally gun friendly.....possibly unlike MI. I am quite certain there are provisons for the gun being in the car and I know you can carry concealed from your car to a hotel room. Check the laws and do what you can to protect yourself.

This is getting off topic and I apologize. I am sure Sixx isn't an idiot so I trust he will look after himself quite well.

Sleep either in a rest area or at a truck stop! That's what they are for! And you will have restrooms and concessions available. This stuff about carrying a gun is a little outta hand if you ask me. You're not gonna be sleeping in the middle of NYC - geeze. (I guess I just feel safe with Big Red protecting me)

Really though - some blankets and a pillow and you'll be fine. Just do it at a truck stop or rest area though... not on the side of the highway or anything :)

Have you been to NYC? Have you ever been to Atlanta?? Such a silly comment would lead me to believe you haven't. Is all of NYC bad and all of Atlanta safe? How in the world is carrying a gun "outta hand"? Is there some sort of stigma attached to carrying a gun? Might you be liberals or fans of Rosie O? So are truck stops and rest areas always safe as opposed to the side of the highway "or anything". Do all of the criminals hide in the bushes alongside the interstate? Have you been to all of the truck stops in Atlanta? Ever seen the crime stats involving truck stops and rest areas?

Seems like you might need to get your head out of the MX magazines a while before you claim to be a safety expert. Carrying it and defending yourself is what a gun is for. I guess you could always throw you blanket over them and beat them with your pillow. ;)

Hahahaha.... you are pretty funny JamesP

Actually I have been to both. Atlanta several times. And even slept in many rest areas and truck stops in GA. I am sorry that you are so insecure. If someone is gonna mess with you... they are gonna do it no matter if you are sleeping in a rest area or shopping at the mall or visiting your child's school or eating at a fast food joint... My point - no where is 100% safe. We deal with it every day... anyways...

And if you read Nevada Sixx's post, you would see that he is not gonna sleep in Atlanta.

I'm not trying to start a discussion about if you should/shouldn't carry a gun. I could care less what you choose to do. But I bet you wouldn't think it was too cool if a kid got a hold of "daddy's gun" to protect himself at school - like against your kid.

All I was saying is sleep in a rest area or truck stop because it's LEGAL. It is not legal to pull off the side of a highway or in a grocery store parking lot and sleep. I'm done with this one.

I went to Mississippi to get my GasGas. I drove 13 hours there. Got about a half mile or so from the guys house, it was three or so in the morning so I decided to get some sleep until sunup. I had stopped in the parking lot of a little country store in the middle of nowhere. I had just settled in for my likttle nap when I was startled as a rooster crowed. He was in a tree that I had parked under. The stupid thing wouldn't stop crowing. All night. No sleep for me. I left just before daylight and drove to the guys house. Loaded up the bike and made it home in twelve hours.

I wasnt gonna have my bike with me,, it will just be me and my suv..
IN mississippi, it's legal to have a loaded gun in the glove box,, just not in your pocket, unless you have a permit.. that's a good idea to check the laws in alabama and Ga. If i cant find a good truck stop, i guess i'll just get a room,, it's no big deal no more than i get to travel. I dont know if it's illegal to simply stop on side of road or someones parking lot (that dont have a sign saying i can't),, but that would be good to ask the lawmen before i go also..

thanks guys... see you at the race.... stewart and pastrana will win!!!

I agree entirely that nowhere is 100% safe. That is why I don't look down my nose at people who choose to defend themselves.

I am quite capable of reading....if he is going to sleep in the SUV, after the race IN ATLANTA.....do you suppose it is possible he might sleep IN ATLANTA (or Georgia). Where did you think he was sleeping...Mississippi?? DUH! Besides, if NOWHERE IS 100% SAFE, then why does it matter what city we are talking about?

I don't think it's too cool that kids get ahold of guns any more than kids drown in swimming pools, drink bleach, drive drunk, and whatever else it is that kids do and their irresponsible parents allow them to do. I guess if you are living in fear of other peoples kids and school shootings, then it sounds like you might be the one who is insecure (and watching too much tv). School shootings get the coverage on tv, but the crimes you don't see overpublicised are much more common (like being robbed and beaten in a rest area). I am not insecure, just a bit more in touch with reality than I would give you credit for.

Since you are done...I'll be done also.
