i have a 1997 RMX 250 and it needs some new tires. I only ride in the woods or in farm feilds and i was wondering what brand and what model tire would be good for all around conditions in the woods. thanks in advance.

Dunlop 752s or 755s are my favorite for woods riding. Like to check out the new replacement as well.

Boozer I may have the same, since you put that it made me think. I am interested in the H-12 as well. Although, I am not complaining about the setup now!

After a fair bit of experimentation with different combinations, I think the s12 rear and dunlop 756 front is the best all round. 756 rears, 755's and 752's do well in some terrain but are only average overall imo.

Sandy trails in Michigan...

have been a reserch project of mine this past summer and here is what I have discovered.
Great front tires: Bridgestone M-25, Dunlop 755
Good front tires : Michelin S-12, Dunlop 756
Great Reat Tires: Michelin S-12
Most of the fast guys use Michelins S-12's in the "A" and "AA" class

I use a Dunlop 755 front and a Michelin S-12 rear. I have several friends using the Bridgstone M-25 front tire and they really like it, it my be my next tire too. I love that S-12 rear tire.

Fred, the 755 is Dunlops most agressive mud tyre. Do you find that it wears out too fast? i had a 756, and it's grip was great but didn't last too long. How does the 755 wear compare to the S12? (front tyres)

Muddy up there in Canberra is it? Now is the first time in ages it hasn't been muddy down here in gippsland.

Anyway, my 2c - the 755f is good in soft, reasonably dry conditions, like sand and dry to moist loam. It's crap in mud. It wears about the same as the s12f which is about average. I suggest the pirelli mt44 which grips nearly as well as the 756f but wears like iron.

what front tire is the best for slick, wet, hard pack dirt by creeks and such?? and the wet logs that are debarked. yikes! i have a brigestone on my ktm 200 and it sux!! no traction atall. everytime i go around a slick turn i dump it. thank god for barkbusters. i was leaning tward the s 12 front. i have a s 12 rear now. my cousin says the m12 rear sux in the mud. slip and slide.

Keep with the S 12 on the rear and put the M 12 on the front. I do similiar riding and these seem to work great for me.
I am curious to know if anybody has used the H 12?

s-12 rear and m-12 front

Good traction and great tire life, best tire i've found for rooty rocky wet muddy conditions holds up ok on hardpak and rocks if your not abusing them. Second choice would be an m-12 rear.

enduro engineering had a sale on them might be worth checking out

I just spooned on a Maxxis Maxcross IT rear and a 739 front onto my KLX300. The Maxxis rear is VERY impressive. I'm in MA and the ground is mud, snow, ice, sand and dry all in the same riding area. The rear hooked up in all conditions. Cornering is very solid. Had great traction in sand and mud. Price was $39.95 from Rocky Mountain. I just don't know how well it will last. My only other rear tires I have tried have been Dunlop 737 and 739. The Maxxis is by far the best IMO for how I ride.:D

I have 756's on the front and rear of my 300. The front looks brand new
(one season in the woods), the rear is pretty rounded off, second year
on it. I'm not sure what I'll try next.

whyz, you have the attack position all sorted out? that's great to hear! it's the foundation to your riding technique (most other positions follow the attack position) and that's why it's so important to have it sorted out correctly.

I think I saw on Motorcyclist on Speedvision that Dunlop is phasing out the 752 and 755 and replacing them with a new tire - the 773. See link below for more info

http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/sneakPeek.asp

This said, the 756 will meet your stated requirements but may not be as durable as some other soft-to-intermediate tires on the market. The Michelin M12s will probably hold up better overall. An S12 front/M12 rear combination will work well in the MI soils and hold up well. An S12 rear will smoke the M12 in sand, but is not as durable in rocks and harder terrain. The M12 does not turn into a slick in the sand, but the S12 is noticably better.

Metzeler MC4s are also a great soft-to-int tire and are durable.

S-12's

I have an S-12 on the front of my KX and I just
counted the missing knobs. I am missing 11 knobs and it's not
that worn down. This tire is for soft stuff not rocks.
May I recomend the IRC, good price point, not a lot of hype.
I put the VE-33 on back and love it.
