I have probably 3500 to 4000 miles on my kdx and two seasons, I have lost noticeable amt. of bottom end power any chance it could be solved with a new pair of reeds or is it certain I need a top end job by now?

I would do both - you will be surprized how much pop you have lost!! It will be like getting a new bike for under $200.

Wouldn't a top end job be around $400 at a dealership?

How hard is it to clean the powervalves and replace them correctly? I hear some pretty nasty things can happen if they don't go back in the way they came out.

Not too hard, if you have a service manual and take your time. Note also that some service manuals have an error about which subport valves go where. See the correction on the http://justkdx.dirtrider.net website. There's also an excellent top-end pictorial there.

200 or 220?

Use a wiseco for the 220. Stock piston breaks sometimes.

Use a stock piston for the 200. From pro-x cuz that's the only way you're going to get a properly sized a,b,c,d piston for your bike. Order one from kawi and you have no say as to WHICH piston you get. No sense putting a 'b' piston in a 'c' motor if you can get around it.

With the 220/wiseco, you have no option in that vein at all. Probably ends up a better deal anyway 'cuz you want a bit more clearance for the wiseco anyway.

At 4000 miles, you're due.

Could always spend $400 on an EG 225 kit! Then you don't have to mess with the KIPS at all! Let HIM do it!!
