Now, I am probably up in the nite on this, but is it possible. My last bike was a 1999 Suzuki Dr 350. The bike was not very fast, but had a wonderful trailriding engine. Very easy to deal with due to all the torque. Still, the thing was 60 lbs too heavy.

The new bike is a YZ 250. I love the chassis, weight, and suspension. The bike has a Pro Circuit platinum pipe and silencer. I believe it is in all other ways stock.

Is it possible to give this bike some more low end? Is so, how? I hate to invest huge amounts of money, but I probably will if I need to. I like this machine that much.

How about the flywheel weight? Big Bore kit?

Thanks to all of you for the help. This is a great forum with very cool people!

I have made these bikes 285cc in the past but they are a handful lots of torque but also lots of hit , you almosat need a flywheel weight. I am sure E GORRS shop could help you out with something smooth & strong .

Just open the throttle, fan the clutch and hang on and have fun!

in all seriousness, i am sure you can send it in for just some minor porting to get it more friendly, but it will never be a DRZ (thank god!)

Thanks you guys. I allready have Eric's book. It is excellent. Everyone who is even bothering to read this forum should own it! Seriously! Sort of like a good "How to" manual without all the hype. I am calling "Hype" the crap the MC magazines are putting out about the 4 strokes. Sure the bikes are bettetr than in years past, but for me, the two strokes rule. just like the outboard engine rules for the average boat owner.

I need to decide just what, if anything, needs to be done to this bike. The machine did not rate too high in the magazine shootouts. For me, however, it is amazing. It is in a completly different class from the Suzuki.

Not just in power. The bike is easier to work on for crying out loud. I never believed this would be possible. I would cal the complete bike well thought out.

I am taking it out this weekend. I need to pay attention to the torque. I think that is what I am after.

Then again, if the bike pulls me up where I need to go.....

That is a great bike
I hated mine when it was new and jetted on it constantly till I got it right. When I was done it almost matched the stock jetting specs of the 98 model (including the #7 slide) I did all this before the 98's came out. I dont remember the specs but if you can find the specs for a 98 I am sure you will like it in the 97. Also the 97's were geared very tall compared to bikes of its day. Two teeth on the rear and crisp jetting and that is all it needs. (for what it is) If you want anymore get a newer bike. Or, get it ported, get a fmf pipe, a more agressive ignition, a rad valve... I liked my stock 99 yz a lot...

Shank and everyone, thanks.....Are the new bikes really faster? I sear to you...more torque would be nice.

More top end and my hop up money will have to go for new BVD underware. I easily pulled away from a YZ 426 last weekend. I was shocked....

I have a 97 yz250 also... I recommend Delta 2 V-Force Reeds. I just installed these reeds on my bike and they made a HUGE difference on the low end!!!! When I got the bike it had an FMF Fatty pipe and Turbine Core 2 and it had a pretty broad power band as it was, but it seemed to run a little rich with the stock jetting. I wanted more bottom end and had heard good things about the V-Force Reeds. I wrote Eric Gorr and asked what he thought... he agreed the V-Force would help the bottom end and suggested going one size leaner on the jets (main & pilot) and raise the needle clip by one... THANK YOU ERIC!!!! What a difference the V-Force and re-jetting made!!!! This thing has low end grunt like a 4-stroke now, yet this aint no 4-stroke! :D It comes on strong way sooner now and pulls hard all the way up! I haven't tried the "low tension setting" yet... they (V-Force) don't recommend the low setting in some bikes as it can reduce reed life, although in the low setting they claim more bottom end. I installed mine in the "high tension setting" and I can't imagine this thing having any more low end... best money I've spent on this bike!!!
