Tranny Won't Engage

Climbing up an easy hill today, it felt like my clutch was slipping intermittently. Same feeling down the hill using engine braking. I shut off the bike, and now I have five gears of neutral. It shifts fine, but never engages. The bike is an '81 KX420

Before I tear into this thing, what should I be looking for?

disintegrated clutch pieces? I find it odd that you would lose the all of the transmission at once I think your problem is before the trans.

Definitely sounds like the clutch is DOA. I wouldn't run it until you at least pull the clutch cover and take a peek.
