Trying to build a Bike

I have a 1988 yz125 rolling chassis that was givin to me. The motor was used for a shifter cart a few years back. It's in decent shape but missing lots of parts. Right now I'm looking for a motor. Does anyone know what years I can go with? Also do I have to go with a 125cc or will the 250cc fit in that frame? Any other helpful comments about anything else on the bike would be appreciated as well. I've had people tell me that I'm wasting time and that I should just buy a complete bike. My wife wouldn't let that happen. If I can slowly build this one so it's ridable than she won't say much. Thanks for any help. If anyone knows of a good place to get a motor that would be helpful too.

IMHO the other people are right unless you can find a junk chassis with a good motor.
