U.P. riding suggestions?

Me and my wife plan on taking a trip to the Upper Peninsula the second week of July. Along with looking at waterfalls and pictured rocks, we want to do some riding. I have a dirtbike, but she has made the switch to a quad after tearing her ACL on a dirtbike last year.
Any suggestions of a good place to ride? It would have to be a ATV friendly trail of course. I hear the trails for snowmobiles are epic, just hoping to find some fun stuff for the bikes too.

Tripdog7 - what you want can be found pretty much anywhere in the UP. If you have specific locations I can offer my $.02 on the stuff I'm familiar with.

Sure, give me your .02 or even .03 cents worth! I checked the DNR website for a list of trails, but any personal recommendations for a first time Yooper visitor would be awesome.

Try the area northwest of Newberry. Some single track, tons of easy two tracks, sno mo trails etc. I took my family up there Memorial day weekend - had a great time. The ORV trails are easily ATV compatible - one of my kids and my wife are on quads and had a great time. Once i get home I can double check which camp ground we stayed at - but the ORV trail comes right into it, plus some other specifics not coming to mind right now. One down side with the two tracks is they were all on section lines, so straight and (to me) boring. THe up side with that -almost impossible to get lost!

A plus with that area is it is very close to Taquamenon (sp?) falls - not far from Grand Marias, or Newberry, head over to the Soo Locks perhaps.

But...my preference for a real UP trip would be the west side. Partic. up in the Keweenaw., but Marquette is a beatuful area...also Ironwood...also...aw heck..its all beautiful up there!. Hey get Nick Zambon or Magoo to weigh in here ...they are real Yoopers... I am just a former Yooper Transplant!

Newberry would be an excellent base of operation. From there you'll find plenty of ORV Trails you can ride or trailer to. Silver Creek is fun and you can mostly fit a quad down it (don't recall if it's bike only or not). The sled trails will take you any direction of the compass you want. Brevort and Sandtown are not out of reach; the connector trail from Newberry is never ridden and very bike friendly (not quad friendly).
Newberry also has "city" stuff like food and, and, and stuff ;-)
Taw-Common-On-In Falls are nearby for family activities too.
If you've not done much in the UP, this is a good starting point. I was just up there for a few days, stayed at the KOA in Newberry, and had a good time. We usually stay in that area since the sister-inlaw lives there.
I've also camped out of Twin Lakes (far west side, by Bill Nichols Grade) and Baraga (bottom of Keewenau) amongst other places and found the riding to be good there too.

quad with bikes ride report

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully we'll be up there the week of July 12th.
This past weekend, we rode the Mio area. It worked out quite well having my wife on her new quad and me and her brother on bikes hitting the trails together. But we did run a definte limitation of quad vs bike.
The A loop out toward the Pink Store has a little side trail marked "More Difficult". Apparently, this is the road less traveled, because it was not much more than a single track and full of deep ruts. At one point there were two large logs blocking the trail, and no real way around it. We tried to backtrack and circumvent the trees when we somehow ended up on a CCC trail. The "trail" has not been used in many years it seemed, as the trees had grown together and picking a track was difficult. We finally made it back to the main A loop, my wife very not happy for having dragged her through that mess.
All in all it was a great weekend to ride. We can't wait to try out the U.P.!
