yep, the axe finally swung my way. i survived 2 rounds of layoff that gutted a company of 60 and left only about a third of that, just to walk in monday morning and learn my job had evaporated. as in, poof, you are on the street. oh well, maybe this is my chance to figure out what i really want to be when i grow up. engineering and product development has been interesting, but the project management and sales has been the fun part.

i look at this as a golden opportunity to explore some new paths. so, if any of you texas folks have any ideas, i would greatly appreciate a tip, especially if you know of a dream job in the motorcycle industry for me!

Ironic. I'm in project management, and all I want to do is engineering and product development!

On a serious note, sorry to hear about the layoff. What field did you work in? Ever consider moving from Texas? The job market is very good up here, but then again, I wouldn't move up here from there either!

Keep us posted on the job search! Good luck

Sorry to hear about the job situation but look at the bright side. Nows your chance to start your pro riding career or do something that you like do do rather than something you have to do..

Same here Will.

Maybe we can hook up with Supercross and AMA Nationals and be the "Don't let this happen to you" exhibit.

P.S. I crash equally spectacularly in the woods...........

Will, you are not alone. I was axed three weeks ago. It was our fourth layoff in the last year, a company of 500+ is now less than 100, and most likely gone in three more months. It's very sad.

I'm taking a few months off before looking, sort of in the same boat as you... trying to decide what to do when I grow up. Engineering's been fun and all, but 8 years is enough. Time for a new career.

Good luck, and enjoy the midweek riding!!

Sorry to hear it. We have had the third round and if work does not pick up I might be next (resume updated already). My boss (in middle management) got layed off last week. Makes me feel realy secure about my job, yea right. I would think that with a degree in engineering + experiance in project management your options are many. Plus you're in a metropolitan area. Many more options. I have checked my options in my area. It looks that I would be completing with all the poeple in my functional group for jobs if I layed off and there would not be very many.

Good luck and way to look at it with a positive attitude. If you are going to do a career change now is the time to do it. I hope things look up for all the layed off people. Who knows, I could be one of ya.

Hey Will,
Ever think of the Aviation Industry. If your in Engineering might be a good idea to hunt out Lockheed in Ft. Worth as they are going to be booming real soon with the JSF contract they just won! My brother thinks I should persue them also but I'm content where I am right now! Best of Luck to ya!

Wow, and here I thought I was the only unemplyed person here...

I got the ax in Nov. But at least I was smart enough to buy my first dirtbike just before that. Now if I could only find a place to ride it....:think
