VINTAGE IRON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
FAMOUS FACES
The list of motocross dignitaries continues to grow for the V.I.W.C. David and Gary Bailey, Broc Glover, Roger D., Chuck Sun and others have all expressed interest in coming out for the day as spectators. Now there is a switch. It wasn't that long ago we were all paying to watch them! Guys like Gary Jones, Rich Eierstedt, Scott Burnsworth, Rex Staten and others are more likely to be out there doing battle with the vintage faithful.
A RESTORED CZ FOR $5.00!!!
Vintage Iron and other sponsors have teamed up with Southwest Vintage Racing Group to restore and raffle a 1973 CZ 250. The proceeds go directly to club member Craig Anderson, who recently lost his legs in a work related accident. Craig has heroically bounced back with a terrific attitude and truly deserves all the help we can give him. Tickets will be on sale up to the mid day break when one lucky winner will be chosen. The more you tickets you buy, the better your chances. For info 760.744-8052
BIG RACE, BIG TRACK
While last year's course received high praise from the vintage faithful, this year's move to Glen Helen's National track is all the buzz. The National circuit offers a bigger starting gate, bigger first corner, bigger hills, bigger fun! Yes, bigger is better. Beyond the size considerations there are several added benefits like grand stand seating, better viewing, improved public address system, permanent catering facilities, vendor areas and shaded bike display areas.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Carburetor Day at Glen Helen will be Thursday Oct. 28th and will be a
Vintage/Evolution only practice on last year's course from 8am to 1pm. This will provide an excellent opportunity for testing and tuning old bikes and old bodies. Saturday Oct. 30th there will be a practice session on the National track beginning at 12pm. Sunday Oct 31st will have the traditional pre-race practice (which is never long enough for some and too long for others)
MIX AND MINGLE AT THE "CIRCLE OF ONES"
Directly following the Saturday practice there will be a barbecue hosted by the first American rider to win the U.S.G.P., Marty Moates of No Fear. Marty and other invited "famous firsts Americans" like first 250 National champ Gary Jones, first G.P. winner Jim Pomeroy, first 250 World Champ Danny LaPorte, first 500 world champ Brad Lackey. This is a finger lickin' good opportunity to rub elbows with some true legends and hear some great stories. You don't want to miss it.
THE NIGHT BEFORE THE DAY BEFORE
Friday Oct. 29th there will be a OPEN HOUSE at VINTAGE IRON's new location in Yorba Linda Ca.. until 7pm for those participants and fans in from out of the area. It is also a great opportunity to stop bye our new store for those last minute needs and wants. If you have never have been bye, you won't be disappointed. Plus you never know who you are going to see! Maps faxed upon request.
MOTOCROSS DES NATIONS
There are still limited spaces available for teams (countries or states) to
compete in the MXdN. The competition is open to only ten (10) teams of three riders. Any bike that is eligible on the day can be used with the lowest overall score deciding the winner. Special consideration is given to the age of the machines used. Pre-'70 and earlier will have their score cut in half, Pre-'75 scores will stay even and all Evolution machines will have their scores doubled. Choose wisely. This one moto, winner take all format will be as exciting to watch as it will be to ride. Entry is $100.00 per team. Currently entered is England, Canada, Italy, France, Texas, Arizona, New York, and the defending champs Team California. It should be a barn burner!
PRE-ENTRY
Pre- entry closes October 21st. Post entries will be accepted on the day of the race at a slightly higher fee.
THE BIG SLEEP OVER
Free camping is available at Glen Helen. Yes, free! This is a great way to
eliminate the red eye drive to the track on race day, plus it gives you the first pick on pit space. They don't call it the Woodstock of Motocross or nothing. P.J.'s optional.
