got this today. Then you have them do this, with a "few" selected people. So they just make anything they want to. ANd you can see we can thank AMA Staff for the new class structure, Tad is the only No vote on this. ================================================== ======================== Additional information on amateur motocross class rules changes Dear Congress Delegate, Some Congress Delegates have raised additional questions about the Competition Bulletin issued June 15 about changes to amateur motocross class rules. The original Competition Bulletin was sent out to all current AMA Competition Members and to AMA promoters and promoting clubs, in addition to AMA Congress Delegates. Since it was sent to all three groups, it did not go into detail about the approval procedure. These rules did go through the Executive Committee before being passed along to the AMA Board of Directors. The following is a copy of the minutes from the meeting. An Executive Committee Meeting was convened on May 2, 2007 via telephone conference to discuss rule proposal number 37. All of the current AMA Off-Road Executive Committee members were present. They are as follows: Ed Santin, Off-Road Tad Dewalt, Motocross Al Sumner, Track Racing John Arens, ATV Chris Hardy, At Large 1 Year Joseph Bromley, At Large 2 Year Rule number 37 was designed to do away with handicapping of 2-strokes and 4-strokes. The AMA Board of Directors turned this proposal down and directed AMA Staff to create plans for future class structure. With the 2008 season approaching quickly AMA Staff researched and put together two proposals for the upcoming season. In addition they will have additional plans to present to AMA Congress for 2009 and beyond in October of this year. The first of these two proposals was to eliminate 4-stroke machines from the youth classes from 50ccs to 85ccs and to leave Super Mini and School Boy as they existed. This proposal was amended by the Executive Committee and they changed it to read as the current class structure does for the 2007 season. This was voted on and passed with a 5-1 vote. The second proposal put forward by staff was to change the existing Amateur classes for Motocross. There was a long discussion on this topic. The proposal that staff presented to the committee was passed with a 5-1 vote. I hope this information clarifies the process used to approve this rule change. Sincerely,
