Am I getting in over my head? What is all involved when changing water impeller seals on a kx250 00'? I have changed my own top ends and other simple maintenance items, but changing these seals looks like I need to pull off my entire side cover. If that is true since my bike is 3 years old what other work should I consider doing while I have the cover off? New clutch basket? Anybody who has done this work I would like to hear about your stories.

I did this on my 01 YZ 125 and it wasn't that bad. You will need to pull the side cover off, but if you've done a top end, this is probably a little more simple. I was unfortunate and replaced every part in my water pump except the impellar. Just make sure to look at a microfische and order all the parts you will need before hand. Also inspect the impellar shaft thoroughly b/c the worn seals tend to gouge the shaft quickly.

Save the money and do it yourself. I learned a lot in the process. Good luck!
