Weird to find neutral on RM250

I have a 1996 RM250, that getting it to shift to neutral is a blind guess with the foot. You gotta like just raise it half an inch from first, you won't get a click or anything, nothing at all, but it will in fact be in neutral when you let the clutch out, what problems internally cause this?

My buddies '00 RM125 has had a lot of problems with "false" neutral on his bike. He ended up bring it to a shop where they replaced the shift forks. I'm not familiar with much about trannies, but that's what they did.

when i got my 125 it was like that
i did fluid change and now i cant stop finding neutral :bang: :bang: usually when i am going at good clip to think im in 2nd let clutch out and wind it up and go nowhere fast and make big racket

make sure your clutch is adjusted properly, when ever my clutch got out of whack it made it such a pain to get into neutral, once adjusted correctly it would go in no problem. On my bike as well i dont get a click for neutral, you can just feel it go in, no click

My RM ALWAYS did that, On my -=.K.T.M.=- I am ALWAYS hitting in into neutral. :( :(

Well rather a hard to find neutral than an easy to find. :boss: I'll see what the manual says about adjusting the clutch, anything besides just doing it at the lever. Thanks guys. :cool:

im not thinking it has much to do with the clutch but the gear itsself. if it is in neutral even when you dont feel the click of it going into neutral its probably just a really smooth mechanism. KTMs are probably made so that one clikc up from 1st will put it into neutral so the olden days of taking 10 minutes to find it are gone. id rather have the knwledge that i just need to go up twice from 1st to get into 2nd. just gota get used to your bike perhaps?
(i would like to state that i know nothing about anything and that i just came up with this from riding various quads and bikes in the past few months :blah: )

I think the 96 was prone to hard to find neutrals.

Well I just came off of a two stroke quad, and it's neutral was clicked in just like any other gear, except that you had to slowly and softly raise it, to get a positive click. A regular shift would take you right past it to second, it really worked perfect for both gears. Not a problem with the RM though, I just gotta get used to it. I must say that this bike is alot more fun than the quad was, even though I just started with dirtbikes.

I had a bit of a problem on my 02 rm 125, so i geared it down a bit. Now I never use 1st. lol. Who needs neutral . . . Keep it movin!

My buddies 99 Rm 250 is the same way. He's used to it, so he does it with his foot with no problem, but compared to my YZ 250, it's impossible! On his bike I use my left hand to find neutral or shut it off in gear and let him deal with it. ;)

It can occasionally be a pain to find neutral for me. Usually a light tap up or down depending on if I'm in 1st or 2nd, will put me in neutral. If I'm not on the bike, it's usually easier for me to just find neutral with my hand.

Nothing like expecting you've shifted into 2nd and ripping it wide open to realize you're coasting in neutral. That one always makes me feel good. :)

thats what i was talking about after changing my gear oil for first time in bike :yikes:

hey, hey that happens to me too when i dont want it to happen. but when i go to stop, i have a hard time finding neutral and end up stalling it. but when the above happens to me im between 4th and 5th gear. ya it makes a HUGE noise. my Neutral is half a click up from 1st but there is no click, so you think your in neutral but really ur in 2nd. and you end up stalling it. It sucks big time.
