I'm also looking for a bike for my little brother. He's 13 but small for his age. 5' tall and about 89lbs. He's never riden (other then a trail 90 for a couple minutes). What would you guys recommend? It's ok if it's a little big on him, he'll be growing over the next couple years. Thanks!

Yamaha TTR 125, Honda CRF 80, CRF 100 or CRF 150 - something like that. . .

. . . Unless you think he's going to want to race MX. Then the only choice is an 85 MX'er (RM, YZ, CR, KX).

If he is aggressive and learns quick then get a CR80 not the big wheel. IF he is timid then get the crf 150 or ttr125 and if he really feels uncomfortable maybe a crf 100. I am 15 and a have a cr80 and its plenty powerful for me( 125lbs).

I have a crf 100 dont get it (slow!!!) if he wants a 4 stroke get a 150 or a ttr 125. if he wants a 2 stroke get a 80 or 85. if you get him too small of a bike he wont want to ride it that much. (it happened to me)

right ben. in my opinion you need either a kx or yz 85, or a crf 150 with a nod towards the 150 if hes going to be doing mostly trail riding. an 85 slides a lot on trails. the ages that i mostly see on the two bikes are: 85: 11- 14 y/o (with the exception of my little brother,9, but he doesnt ride trails)150: 12-15 y/o. but, this is what ive seen at TNT, so its not going to count to much for trails. the 85 would and can whip easier IF you can maintain control of it. if it rains a lot down there, definetly the 150. if you will end up going to tracks to ride a little bit, he would probably have more fun on an 85 since hes 13 y/o. im 13 but dont follow my lead, im on a kx 125, but it rocks.(5'4'' and 105lbs.) if you want to compare these bikes, go to the thread called " cr80 vs. crf 150"( even though its an 80, its pretty much the same size.) there is however, major power and torque differences between these two bikes. the 85, mine and professionals estimate, is 75-80 mph. the 150 could probably hit 50mph. benyz(need to get your name changed) ownes a crf 100 and its pretty fun for the size of the trails that we ride on. i used to own a cr80 before i blew its engine and went to a 125. it was fun at a field. i never really took it on the trails. but bottom line, hed probably be a little scared of the power at first(hes big enough for both of these bikes), but hed eventually get used to it. a 150, hed probably not think its fast enough at first, but again, hell realize, if he regually rides trails, that its fast enough he just needs to be over 3rd to feel any pull. thats about it for these two bikes, again, look at that thread. its located in this forum. either scan the pages or do a search.(doing a search will get you multiple results.)
