What exactly differentiates a MX track from a SX?
I normally ride at Gator MX in Willis TX. It is what I would consider a MX track (no huge air, mainly uses natural terrain changes). This weekend, it was closed to rain damage, so a buddy and I drove to Conroe and decided to try out the new track there. First of all, there was a sign out front that said "supercross track for experienced riders only" This led me to believe that there was more than one track. Wrong. This track had huge air. I am a new rider, and relatively inexperienced...it was intimidating compared to what I'm used to. the hills were great fun, I caught very small air...hehe, but it was still fun. What terrified me was the smallish (5 foot tall) doubles that were very steep. I had to just roll over them. Another major difference was the track composition. Gator is composed of a mainly clay-like soil. This new track was a very deep black thick soil that made horrible ruts. This soil was SOFT! If you didn't carry enough speed, the bike would just sink about a foot into the ground. It was the first time I had to deal with ruts, my footpegs would drag the ground on occasion! I felt very out of place on this track, there was a lot of riders (~100) and I felt like I spent the majority of my time trying to stay out of their way! I would like to ride there again sometime when it was less crowded. I know that the above rambling wasn't exactly a question so here goes; What exactly are the differences between MX and SX? Is this new track considered a SX track? Has anyone else ridden either/or?
