justql, when are we all going to hook up for some woods riding? From what I understand, you and BSWIFT are the woods riders of the group, correct me if I am wrong. Any plans for you guys making the WUDI ride towards the end of February?

I still plan on meeting up w/ MX547 for a dunes trip, complete with paddle tire and all-heck I may even put my MX tank back on just to look the part;)

If things work out at work I will be there in February.

I am not that good of a woods rider, it's just that I really suck at MX. As a matter of fact right now I'm so outta shape I get winded just loading the bike.:eek:

Actually I’m 55 and have been riding/racing since the early 70’s. Yeah, I know, I’m old.:(

Anyway my little comeback to you was just in fun. I hope you didn’t take too much offence.

Your first post is correct when you write about mods being done for your own enjoyment.

My real point was to the racers/riders who think they need the newest, trickest parts to go faster when what they really need is better riding skills.
For example, I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve seen riders fly into turns and never even touch the front brake. They just had the engine ported by whomever, have a new pipe and silencer and still can’t figure out why they are getting passed.
Since very few people can ride a modern bike to its fullest, many of the mods make the bike even harder to ride. It may be a rocket on the straightaway but now it’s a hand full on the rest of the course so they end up going slower. :confused:

And the best part is, they don’t even know what happened.:uh:

Oh well, at least the trick mods help keep the economy going and makes them feel better both of which is not a bad thing.

My bad :eek: you are and old coot! Just kidding, I'm not far behind ya. Another thing is alot of guys just have to tinker on thier machines and mods just are an excuse to do that :D Practice and learning from better riders (communication) is the only real way to get fast as you pretty much said.

There is also those guys out there on the latest greatest bike tricked out with over a grand of mods getting passed by the guy on a 10 year old bike or one 100cc smaller then thiers :)

But the best part I think of a modded bike is finding one with what you want already done, therefore saving all that wrenching :D

Or you could be sick like me-I love wrenching on the bike. It is pretty satisfying watching your bike being personalized. Enough so that I have to peak in on her at least twice a day just to admire if I'm not riding. It's a sickness:confused:

About the same as mine.....
except i preffer Subaru cup holders.
Lighter weight, and easier to bolt to the handlebars.

But gosh, how do you keep your beer from spilling over those rough "whoop" sections????:p :D
