220R and 220 are the same bike. It's like calling my KDX 200 a KDX 200-H1, just depends on how specific you want to be with a name.

Well, parts wise, all of the parts will interchange. The power delivery of the 200 is usually more top end, and more bottom end with the 220. The 220 comes with an O ring chain. That's about it.

The 220 has a larger bore for the extra displacement.
The 220 has a 3 mm smaller carb for more lowend (32mm vs the 200's 35mm)
I beleive the porting is a bit different in the 220, emphasizing low rpm power
The 220 comes with an o-ring chain
And the biggest difference, the 220 has stickers that say 220 instead of 200 :)

Again.... I don't think I see any reference to a 200 anywhere in his question. Do you? I think he knows that a 200 is different. JEEEEEESSSSHHHH!

The R is the race version much much faster than a regular 220. Just kidding not really, Kawasaki just decided to call the 220 a 220R now no mechanical dif.

I believe what happened is back around '96 there was a revision or upgrade to the bike and they became the 200R and 220R.
It may have been when they went to the perimeter frame.

two things, the "R" for the 220, looks better on a sticker. LOL. I took it as REFINED from the 200 version. As for the tank crack, well, It's a silent recall, but the tank needs to be cracked at the filler neck, not a bolt hole. the crack at the filler neck is due to a shrinkage of the outer lining to the inner lining, and it breaks loose at the filler neck.
