Reduces weight is all I can think of.lol. Not like that much weight would matter. Mabey let air flow better in there who knows.lol

I had considered the reduction of air drag. I also considered how much more visible I am to another rider on a collision course. The plate stays.

Crashing, if you hit somthing hard enough they arnt worth putting back
on. People without plates/lights just had a hard time.

So I guess the next time I see someone without a plate, I better make sure I'm infront of them :)

Maybe it's related to the "naked bike" fad that is going strong in Europe right now, where all the bodywork is removed from a sportbike.

If it is a freestyle thing, I was watching the Gravity Games and Clifford Adoptante's numberplate just fell off in a corner. Now I have a hard time seeing how a numberplate would just fall off in a corner for that fact, not the landing of a jump. Maybe it would fall off if someone unscrewed it but it fell off in the middle of his run. Maybe it is a new "fad".

Maybe after a few fork tube dents from roost it will end this possible fad out side the freestyle rink. It could add a small amout of cooling for the exposed fork tubes, if we start seeing fins added to the fork tubes that will verify my guess.

Bike's with lights don't usualy get infront of me :p And I can see it in your case, I wouldn't want a headlight on there either. Save yourself a bit of weight.

Front number plates on most bikes have a plastic loop that you loop around the handle bars or they have a plastic guide high up on the left side. These items keep the front brake hose from hooking on the left fork or triple clamp when the forks compress. Also ever notice that on some bikes that the ignition "black box" is located behind the number plate. The number plate protects the "black box" from roost and crash damage.

My bikes will always have the front number plate on.

I had another thought on the cooling issue. Removing your front plate will also increase air flow to your engine/radiators. If it was a really hot day and I had an overheating problem on my race bike I would remove my number plate for a little extra cooling.
