I used to have a pair. They were small, but I had a pair. Where did they go? Are they gone forever? I want them back!

I just rode at the local night SX track, and I sucked like a leech. I couldn't even summon the sack to jump a 15 foot double. All I hit was two little ten foot tables. What happened? I used to jump everything at Warrior, and it's only been a year since the last time I rode on a track. Do I have to start from the beginning again?

I'm cornfused and disillusioned all at the same time. :think:

Aahhh yes, I know that feeling well. The only way to avoid the retraction of your "pair" is to never stop practicing for long periods (I'm talking about riding motox here, not the practising with your "pair").

I've had the same feeling for several sports I have participated in regularly, then stopped, and then started again on a irregular basis.

1. Surfing - when I was in my early 20's I surfed every weekend and would take the drop on anything up to 8 foot. Now my "pair" start to creep up when I go out in anything more than 4 foot. I honestly think this is more due to my lack of fitness than my ability to still surf. When you end up getting hammered several times because you get caught on the inside of some big sets, and come up gasping for breath, you soon start to lose your confidence in big surf.

2. Rock Climbing - Same thing with heights and fitness. I lost a little confidence after taking a break from it for a while.

3. MX - Used to race at the local MX track until it started to become a local SX track (in my opinion). Had a few offs attempting the bigger jumps and quickly felt my "pair" retract like a turtles head into its' shell. :ohmy: Now I just ride trails and race vintage MX (no man made SX style jumps, just natural terrain).

So I can relate to your despair JP. :ugg:

JP - Pay close attention the next time you ride the track. You will be able to tell when your golden "pair" changes to brass. :yikes:

Hey, I used to ride with Kirby and Coach back in the 70s and 80s (well not exactly with them but we parked next to each other). I haven't seen those guys in 15 years. Kirby is a really cool old coot, for sure. I think you are right, it is all in your attitude. Problem is, how to adjust the attitude?

Anybody ever hear from Dave Hartwick?

They probably went to the same place that my lower back went. I ride one day and pay like the dickens for the next week. 'Course I think a bit of exercise might help in my situation.

I think that the key is definately to ride more. Since I've started college, I've been riding about twice a month instead of twice a week, and my confidence level on big jumps has gone way down. I feel much more scared at first to do things that I've done 1,000 times before.

This isn't good! :(

I jump more now than I ever did when I was younger...I just don't crash any more!

(I guess to be honest I should mention how *slow* I was back then, though!)

BTW, JP...they do have an inflation valve usually located somewhere near them. I'm sure you can find a service station nearby to get them blown up.

All the stations around here are self-service. :think:
