I would suggest installing a safety blow off valve or your pipe could become a pipe bomb. The ice method can split seams. At 23 degrees F if water is fully contained it can generate 8000 psi of hydraulic force as the last remnants of water freezes. As the pressure builds the freezing point of water decreases.
