Where around Fresno (within an hour) do you like to ride? We are going to Fresno this weekend (Memorial Day). If you have a website link to view it - awesome! THANKS!

For trails, Miami Flat is in the forest about 1 hour northeast of Fresno on Hwy 41 maybe 10 miles past Oakhurst. Approx 4,000 feet elevation. I've only been there a few times and not lately. The staging closest to the road is primitive - if you want good camping, there are some campgrounds that are a bit more effort to get too (never staged there so don't know the particulars).

It's OK with some good riding including marked single track. IMO its not as good as Georgetown but if you are down Fresno way, its worth a shot.

Thanks Dave, that's one more place around Fresno than I knew of. Is that riding area large enough to enjoy for 3 days?

Also, do you know anything about the riding around Sequoia Lake (SouthEast of Fresno)? I hear it may be higher up (5000'), which is not a plus given the temperatures this week-end should be moderate, but it's a bit closer for my friends coming from Los Angles.

We don't need camping facilities, we're self contained. THANKS AGAIN!

http://www.employees.org/~calridng/allsites.html#anchor1035169 is alink with a map of most of California's riding areas. Miami is USFS #44 on the map. I've never ridden an area near Sequoia Lake, so can't help you there. I think some of the USFS areas on the map that are southeast of Fresno are well removed from main routes, so they would still take a long time from LA, even though they are further south than Fresno. Miami is just off a main route, so access is easy.

I never had a good trail map of the Miami area when I was up there, so I am not sure how much total trail mileage there is. The maps I had were incomplete and hard to follow, and lots of the trails were not well marked or unmarked. I might have a trail map scanned in on my home computer, but won't be able to access it until this evening.

Exploring around I was able to find a few good ones - the trail that runs parallel to Hwy 41 from the Tillamook (sp?) staging area is OK, and links up with a few others. I also remember a trail called MMTE or something like that which was pretty good and fairly long.

I think there is probably enough to keep you entertained for a few days if you are not too picky and don't mind riding the good stuff more than once. Its not big like Stonyford, but If you have a dual sport, there would be some good fireroads to check out.

Have fun! My inlaws have a place up at Bass Lake, but were are not heading up there this holiday so there is no chance to join you.

GREAT info, thank you. We will be leaving tomorrow morning, but if you come accross that trail map at home my fax number is 916 691-1033 but don't sweat it if it's not easy to find. You just helped us out a lot. I was concerned that the riding areas south of Fresno might be tough to get to. I like your suggestion - we'll check it out! I'll try to let you know when we get back what we thought. Thanks again.

Oh yeah, Kamook is where I staged. If you take the first left at the 4,000 foot sign on Hwy 41 it will take you there (I think you stay to the right if the forest road splits). This is the most direct route to the staging area, but the road is not great for big rigs.

There is a less direct route to Kamook that you can see on the map - basically go further up Hwy 41 and hang a left, then another left to turn back south toward the staging area. I think the route is marked with those little picture signs identifying a motorcycle riding area. I've ridden through the Lone Sequoia camp area a few times, and it is much nicer than Kamook if you are going to stay awhile. Not sure about availability on a holiday weekend - might be crowded. There's not a lot of good, shady level ground at Kamook, but I've seen motorhomes and big trailers there.
