Bike is all original and smoked pretty bad (I'm the 2nd owner).
I finally tore it down and mic'd everything.
New std. piston and rings going back in.
Which is the compression ring and which is the 2nd (scraper)ring?
1 is a shiny brass/copper color and the other is black/gray like the 2 lil' one's on either side of the oil ring.
I'm assuming the shinier one is the top comp. ring? But...NEVER ASSUME!!!
Thanks in advance,
jonny

You have it correct. The black ring is the second/scraper ring. It's important to install it with the correct side facing up towards the head. It should be marked so you know which end is up, usually with a letter stamped on the ring.
