Ok...Im thinking of buying another bike and i have 3 maybe 4 choices. The first is a 1998 YZ400F, a guy wants to trade me my 02 400ex plus $250 for it, the bike is in nice condition and has some mods to it (cam mod, valves, springs etc). The next is a 2005 YZ250, there is a person selling one for 2,800 that lives very close. This bike has some suspension work and a new top end, but thats about it. The third is a 02 YZ250F and an 01 YZ250F, the person is willing to sell me both for 2,700. The 02 is in good condition and the 01 has a blown motor. The last would be a 1998 YZ250 that my friends dad has. My friend is looking to buy 400ex and may be willing to trade that bike plus 1000 for my quad. The bike has suspension on it and very low hours because his dad has a back problem and cant ride it. I would be putting money into and modding which ever bike i get to a pretty good extent.

Right now i have a 05 YZ125 that is race ready. Ive ridden 450's and 250's before so the power will not be a problem and i really dont feel like listening to people about how the power of a bigger bike will be too much (ive heard it already from tons of people). Im just wondering what you guy's think think would be the best deal. BTW the 400ex that i would be trading is mx ready and is probably worth around 3000 right now (just to give you an idea).

I think you shoud go for the ZY250 since your use to the 2 stroke hit. The 400 is a good bike but heavy. The 250Fs are a good deal but, you ride a bike just as fast already. The 1998 YZ250 would be good also because you can put in lots of performance parts into it with all the money you have saved. Good luck.

definately the 05 yz250 because when you work out the numbers, the 05 is only $700 more than the 98. And the difference in performance and suspension is more than worth $700.

dude! i think you should buy the 05' YZ250, its the newest, and best bike you listed, and its worth the money.

BUT i would but the TWO YZF250, sell the one for "X" amount of money, and fix the other one and sell it for "X" amount of money, And if you sell the first one for enough (Like $2,000) or something all you would need to do is fix the other bike and sell it for at least a grand or more to make a decent profit. Depending whats wrong with it to. What does it need, just a new piston and cylinder, or does it need EVERY thing else? because if its just the piston, and a cylinder, that would be a STEAL! but if all the valves and the head needs replaced i wouldn't worry about it.

The 98 YZ400F was the very first of its kind. It's a strong bike and good runner, but it does have some reliability issues. It's heavy for a motocrosser and just doesn't make the power the newer 4-strokes do. If you're going to be doing trails, it's fine. If you want to be competitive on the track, the yz250 will serve you better.
