...powered headlight? I can't seem to find one and before I make one myself I'd like to see if I can just buy one. (I know I'm lazy).

Wolf try www.sportsmansguide.com in their govt surplus catalogue I got today they have a Swedish Military headlamp for $9.97. comes with a 31" strap and 3 hooks to secure it not sure how bright it is tho.

There are some great bicycle headlights that are light and bright. There is even a HID version.

Mountain Bike Lights.

Wolf-Like Cujet said, there are many, many bicycle lights available for varying prices. Some have dual-beam headlights and some also include helmet-mounted lights. Most have the battery packs inside a water bottle-shaped holder for mounting in a water bottle cage on the bike. If you have a fanny pack that carries water bottles, you could carry it there. You could even carry a spare batt in case you're out too long and run the primary down.

Do a search and you should be able to get some objective ideas about which system would suit you best, run time, wattage, etc.

biglou Thanks for the links there are some really cool systems at that colorado cyclist site. They had some for 59 to about 400 bucks based on that site. I had my first night ride a couple of weeks ago useing only my stock headlight that is pretty weak. I was pretty intense. I had a blast. I think there are a couple system that would be good for some night riding in the summer when its about 100 degrees in the day. A dual setup that would mount to your bars (one aimed out and one down) and a single on your helmet would be the sweet setup. As for battery storage. The helmet on could go in you hydration system bag and the other could easily fit into a fanny pack mounted about the forks in front of the number plate. I think they said in description that some are about 3 lbs or less.

Sorry, I should have clarified what I am really after.
I am looking for a headlight that will make me look somewhat legal. I have a head lamp that works pretty well, the headlight is only for inspection purposes.
I thought about wiring a DHH headlight to a battery, but before I do it I want to see if anyone already makes such an animal:o

Legal for what? Get a enduro headlight and put a flashlight bulb in it... how you do it is up to you. Then connect 2-3 C or D cells to it (take a flash light apart and use that). Mount the flash light body in a handy place so you can get to the switch and you will have a light that GLOWS for hours. My wife's XR 100 is set up this way( it worked to pass the MN DNR. If you want a better setup go to a bicycle set-up for the guts of the thing. This will make it look trailable in WI. The only option other then this or some other cobble job is an after market lighting coil.
