Doesn't anybody hit the weights, or is all you do is stair-stepper, and running? If you're not hitting the weights, you should be, tell my why you're not and if you do strength train tell me your routine.
Thanks.:D

I do. I think the strength training help me handle the bike better. a bonus is the shape change for my body. I basically follow the routine outlined in the BFL program.

Weights every other day and cardio atleast twice a week. A 47 yr old ex- over the road truckdriver I was really surprised how little muscle I had. I started cardio last year and it helped my endurance(still ride like crap just do it longer). I joined a gym last Nov and am trying to add more muscle.

I fall down a lot, so I have to pick my bike up repeatedly throughought the day, and I feel that weight training gives me a distinct edge over my friends, who also fall down a lot.
It also impresses the dozens of beautiful women lounging at the trailhead when I'm able to load my bike without a ramp.
And if I get really big and strong, maybe I'll have enough confidence to tell the quad riders to stop doing doughnuts in the parking lot and turn the friggin' kid rock down.

Ditto what michigan said, except the part about impressing girls - I prefer to intimidate the boys! :p

I lift 2 - 3 days a week depending upon my schedule. Cardio work on the other days.

I work on building strength over the winter and try to just maintain it when we can ride more. I'm using a superset routine now and it's quick and I feel like it's working 3 sets of 8-12 reps for 1 - 2 excersizes of opposing muscles back to back. Upper body one day, legs one day, combo one day if I can and cardio on the other days (or snowmobiling).

I have lifted weights for sports since I started in sports a long long time ago and feel that it helps with riding, picking the bike (or sled) up, protects against injury, helps in recovery, speeds up the metabolism, increases self-confidence and self-reliance, I could go on and on and on.....

I just set down rules for my 9 year old son to start doing a workout at Grandma's when he gets home from school - he needs to catch up to his little sister before she really kicks his butt. No weights but he has to bicycle or walk or run for at least 20 minutes and do 15 situps and 15 pushups.

By the time I get done loading the bike, hauling it somewhere to ride, riding it, hauling it home, cleaning it, fixing all the broken parts, and arranging next weekends ride, I am too tired to think about boring myself to death in the gym.

Ive always lifted and did cardio. But Ive found that if I lift heavy, i suffer from arm pump more. So I have to do some goofy wrist workouts, but they nearly eliminate all of the arm pump.

I lifted on and on for years when I ran track and cross country, but nothing real serious. On the 1st of December, I started a Circuit training program and wow I am actually having fun. I was at first just doing straight lifting since I was healing my knee, but now have incorporated cardio. I can honestly say that I have a TON of more energy since I started lifting. I haven't done any hard riding yet, but I am confident that things will only get better from lifting...:)
