As long as you line the gap up with the pin and made sure any markings on the rings were facing up you should be fine. Was the cylinder scored at all? You need a multi-meter to test the ignition. There's specs for everything in the manual. The reeds can make the bike difficult as well. It's definately worth a look if you have a gasket in hand.
