Woodruff????

OK...I am doing some research on which bike to buy. In reading about the Yamaha WR450, I read about some of them having woodruff problems.

What the heck is a woodruff problem :coocoo: ?

They also talked about Yamaha leaving them out in the cold. Anyone heard of this? :think:

It was mainly in the first year that they came out with the E-start on the bike. That was 03. They changed the design in 04. I've not heard much of the issue since 03. You might check the dates on the posts that your looking at. I know a guy that had a 03 until this year and never had the issue. He traded it on a 06 model this year.

Woodruf key, its that little half moon shaped piece of metal on the left side crankshaft -its slides into the machined groove on the shaft. -5jg5- pn 732891-001 eom parts finder at bikebandit.com

A woodruf key is used to locate the flywheel, I believe. There must have been problems with it shearing.

sometimes the trail gets really rutted and when it goes thru the trees I have heard MXSparx screaming these woods r rough (BTW trees bad :nod: )
