I posted this in "Thumper Central" and should have put it here.
My steering column bearings and races are rust pited and I am replacing them. Any advice on how to get the races out?

You should be able to use a punch and a hammer and remove them in a manner similar to what you do with wheel bearings. Tap the bottom race out with a punch from the top and do the opposite for the bottom.

The race on the bottom of the stem is the hardest to get off. If you have a puller it will come off OK. I've even pressed out the stemm to get the lower bearing off and then pressed it back in with the new bearing. If you do it this way make sure you use plenty of never-seize on the stem.

RM is right on here, if you have a press that is ;) For Shade Tree's like me put the races in the freezer for a bit, coat with grease and tap them in. :thumb:
