On stock pipe can you change just the silencer part or do you need to change the whole exhaust?

This is a ? a friend has because his little boy keeps taking off the spark arrestor for a cool sound?

exhaust is only 1 piece in stock configuration (plus the removable end cap)

You can buy just the silencer and reuse the o.e. headpipe. We put on an FMF silencer on our xr and my son said it made the bike quicker. I think we paid about $70 and we reused the o.e. headpipe
