Plenty of people over here have stuck all sorts of weird motors into motocross frames with varying results.  The best I've seen have been with XR200 motors into KX80 big wheel and KX125 chassis.  Another was with a guy who has put an XR250 motor into a KLX frame - this worked really well, and he has a much lighter and narrower bike out of it.

I guess because the perimeter frame gives extra room around the head, as well as the XR200 motor being light and fairly compact.  These sort of projects all rely on having a good engineering solution between the rear motor mount and the swingarm pivot, as this is the most important engine mount and has a direct effect on the stiffness of the frame because the engine is a partly stressed component of the frame.

Theres no real reason that you can't end up with a very light and great handling bike that is cheap to build.

One place to look out for frames is from go-cart people, or people that have completely stuffed their motor and can't afford to fix it.
