Hey guys, I wanted some input on the xr400. I currently have a 1984 xr350r, it will easily pull the front off the ground in the first three gears without hesitation. I've been having the itch to get something more up to date. Yesterday I went out ot look at a 2001 xr400r, it had only been ridden three times, completely stock. I was really disappointed after taking it out for a spin, it didn't have any of the pep that my 350 has. Will after market modifications really wake it up or is it a waste of time?

Hey if its COMPLETLY stock as you say, it's so stiffled with the plugs and such it can't streach out! You don't feel like running a marathon when your nose is stuffed up do ya! :)

Pull the snorkle, add a Vortip or pipe and rejet! Lights a fire under it, it'll never be a YZF but It'll hang with your 350!

Yeah, XR's are pretty chocked off stock. Open up the intake and exhaust like Rodzilla says, and the 400 will be able to pull your 350. :aj:

I owned a 1985 xr 350 and a 1996 xr400. 400 is a much better bike. More power, quicker revving, doesn't run nearly as hot as the 350. 400 also has a rear disk brake that is much better than the tiny rear drum that was on the 350. Get the 400 set up right and you won't be disappointed in the power compared to the 350.

The owner of our company has a XR350>1986 or 5, not sure. He said he only rode it about 5 or 6 times, then ending up buying a Q***.And never rode the bike at all since, maybe just to start it sometimes. This bike is in mint condition(stock) never seen a scratch anywhere.
What would you guys pay for this bike that is in perfect shape. I dont even think it knows what dirt is.. I was going to offer him 1500.00 ..Is that too much?Should I offer him more? He says that I can work it off or pay him something every pay period.Hopefully I can get it next week. But I would like the price to be fair
(for him and me)..
Thanks..

I sold my well used, but solid, XR350 last fall for 1250. If the bike is as clean as you say, 1500 isn't out of line. Its a great bike

If its the dual carb XR350 just ramamber that its going to be harder to keep sync'd

I know baja designs has a ingition coil fix to make the 350 start easier..

I'd offer him 900$ for the bike and see what he says
