Hey guys, im new to the dirt bike scene and I am looking to buy a bike. I have ridden a Yamaha 230 and I liked the bike. I want to know if it is a good beginners bike. I like the bike because Yamaha has great financing plans that are affordable for a 17 year old. I just want yalls opinions on this. Thanks

I think at your age you will grow out of the TTR230 really soon.

You need to try and bum a ride on a YZ250F or CRF250 and see how it intimidates you. If you are ok on it then go with that.

I had (still have in the garage) an 03' TTR-225. It is a very dependable bike and a lot of fun for a beginner. Got to love that electric start, particularly when learning and crashing a lot. I outgrew it in about 6 months even though I hadn't riden in about 20 years. Still use it when friends or family want to go riding with me.

I now have a 95' KDX 200 and absolutly love it. It too has been very dependable and starts always starts on just a few kicks.

Couple of weeks ago I had no problem keeping up with a bunch of experienced riders on their 250 motorcross bikes on my KDX.

Some will to tell you to not listen to us KDX'ers, we tend to be rather bias. But there is a large KDX following, must mean something...

The KDX is an AWESOME trail bike... one of the best there is.

It has power that is as friendly as a 4-stroke and with a few minor and inexpensive mods the KDX can perform really well.

We ride in WVA a lot and there is one guy who rides a bone stock KDX200 and he can do anything anyone else can do and most of us ride 450's (although I'm on a 250f now).

I would recommend the KDX200 over the CR250 as your first bike because of how useable the power is on the KDX.

Drop me an e-mail at truespode {at} yahoo dot com and I will get you on our e-mail list for the SC area and you can join us at TNT or somewhere one day for a ride. I'll let you try my YZ250F and we may be able to get you a ride on a CR250, CRF450 and CRF250.

Make sure you bring your riding gear, if you don't have any let me know and I can let you borrom one of my used helmets and size 10 boots if they will fit.
