YZ 250 Engine ID

Could someone help me determine the year of a yz250 motor with codes as follows: 5X503 and 1LU-007688???? The guy I bought it from guessed 1985.

The 1LU looks like part numbers for a 1986. where do you find 5X503

thanks for the reply. The 5X503 is on the case by the shifter shaft. So this is 1986?

here is a 86 motor. It is not black like usual though it might have the 5x503

you should have numbers on the right side of the intake part of cylinder

thanks MO, It looks like the one in the photo. The numbers on my cylinder are: 1LU 246CM3 Y-1. What are the number on your 86?

I dont own a 1986 but I can tell you the important number is the 1LU and 246 cm3 is the engine size (cubic centimeters)....The picture came from bikepics.com
