Hey guys. It's been a long while since I've been on here, got out of the sport for a couple years and sold my CR. Well I'm planning on riding more often now and the only bike I have left my is my dad's '92 YZ 250 which hasn't seen much riding (or running for that matter) over the last year or so and will not start at all for me. I squirted some fuel up the carbeurator overflow tube hoping that would do something, nothing. Fuel is on, choke is on, I added new fuel and it still won't fire. Changed the plug but the one that was in it was just fine anyway. I tried to compression start by riding downhill but that gets tiring pushing a 230 pound bike back up the hill, I tried this about 8 times. Does anybody have any ideas? I'd like to get this beast running so I can ride more this year. Thanks for the help!

If you are getting spark at the plug, you probally have a gummed up carb. Squirting fuel into the overflow tub will probally not help at all. If you have spark, pull the carb off and clean it real good as well as a fresh tank of gas and you should be good to go.

As far as cleaning of the carb, should I take it all apart and clean it out from the inside out? I'm betting the carb is gummed up, the majority of the fuel is OLD. I added some but that can't make up for the rest of the bad fuel. How exactly do I go about cleaning the carb? Thanks for the help!

Yes clean it from the inside. take it off the bike, remove the bottom of the carb spray everything inside with carb cleaner. make sure your pilot and main jets are clean. Also drain all the gas out of your tank and replace with fresh gas. Adding fresh gas in with the old stuff will do you no good.
Good luck let us know how you make out.

Well, I got it runnin'. Apparently I didn't get the spark plug boot down all the way after I changed the plug, it was just on there snug, just didn't click down all the way. Needless to say it's been over a year since I've ridden that bike. Going to try to get back into the sport again since I sold my Cr a couple years back for a downhill mountain bike which I have been racing over the last year. It's good to be back!
