I currently ride an '01 CR250 and '02 YZ250, but I am thinking about getting an '03 YZ250F. I haven't owned a 4 stroke since my '85 XR350. I race motocross(30B) and 30 expert offroad(hare scrambles). Would like to hear from any riders out there who have made the switch from a 2 stroke 250 to the YZ250F and their opinions. Any regrets? Were you slower or faster overall? Etc. Etc.
Why dont you go with the '03 YZ450F or CRF450R, they both run in the 250 class and have about the same amount of power as your CR250 and YZ250. By getting a YZ250F, you would have less power and probably would want more out of it. Just my thoughts.
Don't like big bore 4 strokes- too much of a handful in the tight woods-much more so than a 250 2 stroke. I prefer the handling characteristics of a bike with less rotating mass.
I have had all three, the YZ250, YZ125 and YZ250f and my fav is still the 125
The 250F is awesome for power but lacks the snap of a 2 stroke. It does hit with a strong pull but doesnt feel as fast as it really is, till you hit a jump and flat land it.
For my gumby style I found it quite tiring to ride fast too. The suspension was a mission to dial in if your light like me.
But if you are used to 4 strokes or 250 power, give it a go.
I just got my '03 YZ250F compared to my '02 YZ 125 its much less of a work out to go fast on it. Its got that I feel deceptively slow but your really flying type of speed which I prefer just cause its smooth. Its definelty hits harder than my 125 hooks up and starts moving much faster. Its definetly no 250 stroke but requires alot less energy I haven't taken it out on the trails yet. But its gonna rock there its got the hook up and definetly the torque. Its gonna be the ultimate trail machine it hooks up and doesn't waste its power with lame wheel spin. If your gonna be at the salem arenacross next month I'll show you my 250F I'm gonna be there racing. The race is the 17th.
Thanks for the info. I won't be at Salem as I broke my leg at Mt. View in August and it will be another week 'til I can walk. Won't be riding for a couple of months yet. Bummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
