Just bought and restored a 1996 YZ80 big wheel for my son. I need help determining the shock and fork adjustments (which ones are compression and rebound and turning which direction does what). Also anyone know the sparkplug gap? Thanks for your help.
I don't know the 96 model. We had a 2001 but if yours has upside-down forks it should be the same.
Fork compression adjustment is the small screw at the top of each fork leg. Rebound is the one at the bottom. Rear compression is the one on the remote cylinder just below the seat level and the rebound is at the bottom of the unit below the spring (not too easy to get at).
In all cases screwing the adjuster in (clockwise) stiffens the action.
I can't remember how many clicks on each screw but if you turn them all the way in and then back them off, counting the clicks until you reach fully open, you'll have an idea where to start - usually halfway and then work from there. Don't quote me but I think the race sag should be set around 90mm. Any dealer should be able to quote you the stock settings over the phone.
