That '87 YZM500 looks more modern than the '02 KX500 or the '01 CR500.. Go figure!

Looks as though it has an aluminum frame/subframe. And an aluminum airbox too! Like Cam said, it looks more advanced than a modern MX 500.

I believe two of those bikes were stolen out of a box van in the late eighties or early nineties and were never recovered!

Look closer guys and you'll see that subframe and airbox are all one piece in design, its like a stressed member. What they call that monoque something like that. Honda had it on thier works bike back in the early 80's, hey didn't yamaha get the body work design for the 88 yz250 from this bike? I bet that bike was nightmare to make back then.
