Im going to be buying a kx125 for my son, ive got it narrowed down to a 99' or a 03' were there any improvments to the 2003 over a 1999 ? The reason i ask is i can buy the 2003 which has about 6 hours on it and is like new for 2500.00, the 1999 is in very good condition too for 1200.00, i do all the work on my sons bike now and was wondering if i should buy the 99 and add the price difference up in performance parts, how different are the suspensions on these? He is a above average rider, 5'5" 90lbs.

If the 1999 is stock, it has progressive fork springs. You'll want to change those out. You might find that you may need to re-spring any bike you get, so it wouldn't be of much consequence. There are other minor changes, but not $1,300 worth..
