I am putting togather a 4H demonstration and I need a little help.
I would like to know how much compressian it takes to cause 87 and 92 octane gasoline to combust....its kind of hard to explain but I will try.
87octane compressed to x ratio at x rate = combuston. I hope that makes sense...

here goes my opinion.
gasoline needs certain temperature to ignite no matter if it´s spark or compression that do it, and no matter also the amount of compression...
once past that temp (around 200-250ºC ???) it will ignite.
the differences will be in air\fuel ratio, atomization and the way it mixes.
but the way to get it have a lot of variations, from pressure to spark energy, initial temp of mixture to other temps (like combustion chamber)...

resume: i don´t think you could do a simplistic equation of that based only on octane rating and compression... too many variables in the game..

this is what i think of it, but could be foolish... if so, i am sorry and please correct me...

i think rich will like this one

Thanks!
That makes a lot of sense to me....I understand that there are a lot of variables.
